Environmental Program Coordinator

The Environmental Program Coordinator (EPC) will support the Environmental Program Manager to plan and coordinate stewardship events and run The Bronx is Blooming’s Environmental program. The EPC will be tasked with creating event schedules, seasonal volunteer goals, and community outreach programming in each of The Bronx is Blooming’s greenspaces. Their goal will be to educate students and volunteers about the benefits of local native species, the detrimental effects of invasive species, and the various methods local environmentalists can use to create more accessible and biodiverse green spaces. The EPC will work in our various locations to ensure the execution of quality stewardship events and support community organizing in Bronx parks. The EPC will also help to manage The Bronx is Blooming’s plant and tool inventory and ensure accurate reporting of tool use, maintenance, and damage.

Assistant Horticulturist

The Assistant Horticulturist creates beautiful and interesting public spaces that support local wildlife and promote stewardship in the Bronx. They will report to the Environmental Program Manager, and help with the maintenance and care of all plants and tools for the 35+ gardens that The Bronx is Blooming maintains in our Bronx Parks and green spaces. The Assistant Horticulturist will work alongside The Bronx is Blooming Environmental Program staff to ensure all gardens meet aesthetic and horticultural standards. They will work in our various locations using their skills to plant, prune, mulch, weed, water, and generally maintain the upkeep of these garden beds. They will share their knowledge at some stewardship events, leading volunteers in this work. The Assistant Horticulturist will also help with data management and record keeping on each bed, which will include accurate tracking of plant life cycles (bloom times, seed head formation, etc.) and overall growth of plants from season to season.

Volunteer Management Coordinator

The Volunteer Management Coordinator (VOC) will play a key role supporting our Grow, Revitalize, Engage, Educate, and Nurture (GREEN) program, which provides civic groups, schools, and volunteer groups with hands-on environmental education and stewardship workshops that revitalize neighborhood parks. The VMC will be focused on managing, training, and engaging existing volunteers to improve our volunteer program.

This program is funded through Americorps and managed by NYC Service’s Civic Corps. Interested applicants should apply through the portal.
